Hair Silliness, Part II and some High Tea

Oh, yes I did! Now do you understand the motivation behind my previous post, Hair Silliness, Part I (one last bit of fun before it was gone!)? One of my Toddler Time moms gave me a card about a month ago asking if I would consider donating 8" of my hair to a ponytail drive for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. At first I thought, NO WAY! I like my hair long and prefer to keep it that way. However, I couldn't stop thinking about it and how much another woman needs my hair more than I do, and by the next morning I had changed my mind. I could go for a little change in style, and I had an A-line cut in mind. SO, I made an appointment, and was completely blown away by the 30 other women who had shown up to donate their hair as well!

They let Kevin cut the first big hunk in the back (that part was going to be shorter than the front for my haircut, so it was rubber-banded a bit higher than the front), and Courtney, a volunteer hair stylist from Metamorphosis Salon and Day Spa, finished the rest.

And finally, with it all gone!

It was a bit breezy, so she said she didn't want to attempt to cut any layers, but gave me her card instead so I could come in the next day and have it professionally finished. However, she was booked today and another volunteer, Suzanne, cut my hair and gave me a little lesson in how to style it as well. What a great gal! This is a new salon that just opened in the Double Diamond neighborhood, and talk about cushy luxury! I could definitely spend an entire day in there. :)

And for an extra special bonus, I planned a tea party at Belle's Tea Cottage by Meadowood Mall for all the women in my family, and my Godmother Marie (who has been my mother's best friend since the first grade) just happened to be in town for a couple weeks for her niece's graduation and was able to join us! There were a lot of shocked faces when they saw my hair- I didn't tell anyone because I wanted it to be a surprise. Here is a picture of Marie and me:

And one of my grandma, mom and I:

And finally, a picture of all the women of my family (in Reno anyway):

From left to right: my cousin Malina, Aunt Linda, her sister Lori, me, Grandma, Marie, and my Mom. Malina is also graduating next Friday from Reno High School and will be swimming and playing water polo at Sierra College in Rocklin, California in the fall. Yeah for a family of water polo players! (My younger brother, and both of her brothers were stinkin' fantastic buff water polo players, and little 'ole me too, where I dislocated my shoulder for the first time in college.) The tea was very good (Davidson's), as were the tea sandwiches, and it was fun, relaxing way to spend the afternoon chit-chatting and catching up.

So, what do you think of the new do? It's shorter in the back, but you can't tell from the pictures. I'll be honest with you here, I miss my long hair. Running this morning was a little weird, with it flopping from under my hat. But someone will appreciate this gift, and it will grow back eventually. Now if only I can become as comfortable as Suzanne at styling it in the morning... Which might mean getting up even earlier and actually combing it and blow drying it before I leave for work. Jeez. What did I get myself into?!

No, I really like it! Cute and summery. It'll get easier to style eventually, right?

Man, I hope so! Or maybe I'll just make it a point to go in and get it done for me every morning... :O)

It's totally adorable! I love that you made a sacrifice for someone else!

The veggie burgers I made from scratch, with black beans, mushrooms, onion, garlic, cilantro, cumin, and crumbled feta cheese. 12 grain bread (yes, homemade bread crumbs!) to bind. The gal I made them for didn't show, so Liz got them! You'll have to ask her about them!
